Why does Faith intercept the maid in Chapter Seven, so that she can be the one to deliver his tray?

Faith intercepts the maid, Jeanne Bissette, before she can deliver a tea tray. Faith wants to check on her father, and even though he slumped over his desk in the library, she is relieved to find that he is still alive.
