Why does Erasmus fire Jeanne, the servant girl, and why isn't Faith concerned?

Erasmus believes the servant girl, Jeanne, read one of his letters and has fired her with instructions that she is to leave the following morning. Faith is relieved because she was the one snooping through her father's things.
