The Lie Tree
What does Faith see in her vision?
The Lie Tree
The Lie Tree
The juice of the fruit is bitter, and Faith compares it to “worm-juice and rotten walnuts” (214), but she eats it. She is terrified as she enters a vision that eventually changes so that she is walking with Miles. He bemoans the fact that he lives in Erasmus's shadow. He says he was promised a role in the excavation on Vane only if he brought Erasmus with him. She grabs at Miles, realizes he is made of paper, and rips him. The scene shifts and Faith watches as a hand reaches down and kills Erasmus. She realizes that she is also made of paper and hides until the scene is shrouded in darkness.
