Who was Purdy?

Purdy was Hector's cousin whom Mary and Lecia sometimes stayed with while Charlie and Hector were on vacation in Mexico. Purdy was 20 years old, married to a violent man, but still hopelessly optimistic about life. One evening while Mary played with the babies, Purdy's husband came home and smashed Purdy's face through the glass door. Mary and Lecia grabbed the babies and hid under the bed for fear of losing their lives.
