A few weeks after Pete suffered his stroke and was admitted to the hospital, Mary received a phone call from Dr. Boudreaux stating that Pete's medical insurance, Gulf Oil, was refusing to cover his bills and that the family would have to come up with the money. Later, one of Pete's old service captains paid him a visit and explained that Pete had suffered a head injury while in the service, and that if his family could find his old medical records, army insurance might cover his bills now.
