Much to Mary's embarrassment, the principal of her school invited Charlie to a meeting to discuss advancing Mary through the reading program. Charlie was pleased for her daughter's success, but still showed up drunk to the meeting. She couldn't sit still and at the end of the meeting, invited the principal and his wife down to her bar for a drink. Mary was worried that the principal wouldn't want to advance her after meeting Charlie, but she was wrong.
