What does Iowa City represent in the novel, The Late Americans?

Iowa City is symbolic of connection. Although all of the characters come from unique backgrounds and have distinct personalities, they are all connected by their time in Iowa City. The location therefore acts as a container for their overlapping and intersecting experiences.
