The novel, like many of this genre, is narrated from the first person subjective point of view—specifically, that of Sughrue, the central character and protagonist. Cromley structures the novel in a straightforward, linear fashion—event and/or conversation leads to investigation, which leads to discovery, which leads to another event/conversation, which leads to investigation, and so on. This is the traditional structure of novels of this genre, and indeed of mystery novels in general.
