Aunou-le-Faucon was a piece of valuable property that Marguerite's father sold to Pierre, who then gifted it to Jacques a couple of years before Jean married Marguerite. When Pierre gave it to Jacques, it symbolized the level of Pierre's affection for Jacques. It also demonstrated that Jacques was Pierre's favorite over Jean. From Jean's perspective, the land symbolized wealth in terms of rent to be collected in addition to the value of the land, which he believed should have been part of Marguerite's dowry. After the duel, Jean again tried to gain possession of this land, but he never did.
