Plato was an oligarch of Athens. Born in 428 BC, he became familiar with Socrates during his adulthood. He invited Socrates to many parties, and he strongly encouraged him to both engage others in conversation and to drink with them.

Plato developed into a philosopher in his own right, and he became a powerful figure in the city of Athens. He became a head instructor at a local educational institution, The Academy, and he is the author of all of the dialogs in the book.

At Plato's Academy in Athens, philosophy and wrestling were studied in tandem because a healthy, vigorous approach on all these levels was strongly advocated by its founder. Plato believed that there are those who cannot sit still to learn math or philosophy until after they've had time to spend a few hours releasing energy.
