While everything in the book is written from Haddish's perspective, her writing style is unique in that her dialogue is always laid out like a script, with each character getting their own line. She attempts to recall conversations form her past verbatim, which in some cases, can lead to reader to wonder how much the dialogue is accurate. Another unique feature about the perspective of these essays is that Haddish is skilled at analyzing her past in two ways: first, from the present with the benefit of hindsight, and second, from the past to provide the reader with a full understanding of how Haddish felt at the time of certain events in her life.
