Celia is a beautiful and fashionable young woman, who spends a great deal of time and expense in making sure that she always looks fashionable and attractive. However, readers do not really learn anything about her as a person, only about her external appearance. In many ways, who Celia is is not directly relevant to the poem – only how she looks outwardly, as well as her "true" form, which represents the way women enhance their appearance in accordance with social ideals.
