Who is Marcial

Marcial is the stranger who approaches the narrator of "The Lord Rides a Swift Cloud" in a bar. He follows the narrator home with, we learn toward the end of the story, intentions of robbing him at knifepoint, but he does not do so. Marcial is an older man who feels left behind by the unnamed country's booming economy. His wife has recently died, and he is on a year-long drinking binge when the narrator meets him.
