Vladimiro is the father of the narrator of "The Bridge." He was formerly a lawyer but was committed to an asylum for the criminally insane after a violent outburst in court, during which he stabbed his client multiple times in the neck with a letter opener. While in the asylum he and his wife, the narrator's mother, get a divorce. His half-brother is Ramón, and when their father died he cheated Ramón out of a good part of his inheritance. At the end of the story, when reporters question him about Ramón's death, Vladimiro denies that he has a brother at all.
