Who is Edward from The Killing Dance and what is their importance?

Edward is Anita's friend. He is also an assassin. Over the course of the novel, Edward refused the contract that called for Anita's murder, and he informed her of the offer. He believed that in protecting Anita, he would have the joy of killing even more people. Edward later convinces Anita to hide out at the Circus of the Damned while he finds back-up and learns the source of the contract. The vampires' nickname for Edward is Death.
