Thirteen years earlier, Mark wakes up in his hut to discover he is a little chilly. Considering the world has become so hot, he finds this a good thing. On the other side of the hut, Alec, a former soldier and Defense Department contractor before the sun flares, snores. Alec is gruff but has a heart of gold.
