There is a good deal of cyber security lingo particularly in the portions of the novel that deal with Bannick and his security precautions. For instance: “He went online, activated his VPN to blow past security walls, and passworded his way into the dark web, where Rafe was always waiting” (170). In this case, VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, an acronym that is never defined, though it can be inferred through context clues that it is connected to Bannick’s computer security.
