Where is Granny Weatherall in the beginning of the story? What is happening to her?

In the beginning of the story, Granny Weatherall is on her deathbed. As she lays dying, she remembers the one great tragedy in her life: being left at the altar on her wedding day. She is worried, and the correlation is, that God will also desert her in a similar fashion when she reaches heaven.
