According to Equiano, being sold in Barbados is very different from being sold in Africa. In Africa, it seems that being sold was an individual transaction, almost like being adopted. In Barabados, Equiano and the other slaves are treated like animals, herded into a pen and sold at an auction. Selling slaves in the Americas seems much more dehumanizing.
