The citizens of Damascus are violently opposed to Christians. Paul (or Saul), once a warrior against Christianity, was supposedly visited by the spirit of Jesus on the road to Damascus and made a priest. Thereafter, Paul fought on the side of the Christians, and the people of Damascus ran him out for fighting against them.
