Shortly after Lauren and Amos begin divorce proceedings, Lauren travels to Denver, Colorado. She has grown tired of single life after Amos leaves her, and starts researching the other husbands online. She discovers that Carter is living in Denver and is finally single. She buys a cheap ticket and decides to manufacture a meeting with him. He is a realtor and she contacts him, pretending to be a new client in search of a Denver property. Because this is her first time to the States, she is overwhelmed and confused when she first arrives. However, she soon decides that she loves the strange mountain city and could actually imagine herself living there if things work out with Carter. Carter does not take an interest in Lauren when they do meet, and Lauren leaves Denver feeling more alone, ashamed, and lost than before the trip.
