The Hungry Tide is a novel about a number of different characters whose worlds come together in the Sundarban islands. For the most part the narrative point-of-view of the novel is the third-person omniscient narrator - this is a speaker who narrates externally from the events which are taking place and knows everything about what is going on within the story. This is an effective narrative tool when there are multiple characters for a number of reasons.
