There are many ways that Peeta shows through his actions that he loves Katniss. Early in the book Peeta throws some old bread to her instead of feeding the bread to the pigs as his mother has told him. Later, when they first emerge onto the field and everyone is running from the cornucopia, Peeta infiltrates one of the groups because he knows they are targeting Katniss.
