Hans Olav Lahlum divides his novel “The Human Flies” into eleven major parts, with each part further subdivided into chapters. Each of the major parts of the novel comprises the events of a single day. Each part is therein labeled according to the day, and a set of circumstances specific to that day. For example, the fifth part is titled “Day Five: A Diary and Its Secrets”. Within each part are chapters divided with Roman numerals (I, II, III, IV, etc.). Each chapter deals with a specific set of events or situations particular to that part’s (or day’s) events. For example, Day Ten, Chapter I deals with K2 picking up Patricia from her house in order to head over to confront Andreas at 25 Krebs’.
