What is the theme in The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne?

One major theme in the novel is that of class status. This theme, and the changes in class distinction in the colonies, is illustrated through Hepzibah's need to work in order to provide fer herself, as well as to hold onto the family home.
