Imagery:

"Up and down the narrow uphill street the houses were all heights: none so small as the Fishers'. At each end, the street bent out of sight: it was exceedingly quiet and seemed, though charged with meaning, to lead nowhere ... it would not really have surprised Henrietta if no one had ever walked down that street again."
