How does the author use foreshadowing in The Hostage?

Scene I scene defines the play's setting (a rooming house with a lower class population), identifies and foreshadows key aspects of the plot (the impending execution of the Irish soldier and kidnapping of the British soldier), and,
most importantly for this play, delineates its socio-political context. It is impossible to
understand this play without some idea of that context, the long-standing military and political battle waged by the Irish Republican Army for Ireland's social and political independence from Great Britain.
