Who is Mr. Trimble from The Higher Power of Lucky and what is their importance?

Mr. Trimble is Lucky's father, and although he was lucky to have her..... he didn't want to be tied down by children. After her mother's death, Mr. Trimble abandons Lucky and leaves her with his former wife pending finding her a foster home.
