What is Latika?

Queen Latika is a representation of depression and recovery. When Lakshmi first meets her, Latika does not speak, nor does she give Lakshmi much attention. It is revealed over time that Latika never eats and struggles to participate in daily activities. However, her recovery shows that it is possible to overcome extreme depression if given time and resources. In Latika’s case, Lakshmi’s great care and attention to Latika’s wellbeing allowed her to see the joy in her life again.
