What are Sachets?

The sachets are an example of the difficult decisions many women in high-risk situations must make to survive. Throughout the novel, Lakshmi delivers these sachets to many mistresses of high-class men. However, her business started with courtesans, women who were born into prostitution and have no choice but to take the contraceptive sachets to survive. These sachets ultimately help Lakshmi realize what she really wants to do in her life after she realizes that she no longer wants to help men like Samir cheat on their wives. Instead, she wants to give medicines - sachets included - to those who truly need them.
