Who is Maddie?

Maddie is the 16-year-old granddaughter of the Colonel, a higher-up in the Grudder war plane factory. Although the Colonel and his wife, Veronica, own a luxurious, vacant estate called White Eagle, Maddie and her family live in the small cottage off to White Eagle’s side. Maddie’s mother takes pills and is never awake, and Maddie’s father is an abusive, womanizing Italian man who has always been on the outskirts of society. Maddie enjoys spending time with her brother Dom, and the two frequently act out old myths as their favorite past-time. Although Maddie cares for Dom, she and her terminal friend, Penny, begin spending time with the popular girls. She drinks, parties, and is pressured into sex with a boy she does not like. Then, she meets Brooks, the mixed-race newcomer who she falls in love with and makes her realize her worth.
