The poison from the Grudder factory has left many of the island's women infertile or nearly infertile, representing a shared burden of many townswomen. The only glimpses that we are afforded of Leslie's personal life are the flashbacks to a few of her numerous miscarriages. It is revealed that Leslie returned to the island to live in her dead parents' estate (her father was a Grudder higher-up) only to try and dismantle the factory as her revenge. In one episode at a party, she and various women from the island share an emotional night confessing their miscarriage experiences with one another.
