On the surface, lobsters serve as another symbol of a life of privilege. They are considered a cuisine choice of the wealthy and clam bakes on the ocean have long been associated with summer homes of the affluent. However, the animal itself could also be likened to privilege white Americans. Lobsters are known for their longevity, and this work reflects the idea that those in power will keep minorities at bay by being polite and keeping them in their rightful place. Additionally, lobsters are known to be scavengers and the privileged, elitist families have been known to prey on those less fortunate.
