Since he lived in a rural area of Iran and was not Muslim, the engineer found it impossible to find a woman to date or marry. He generally did not see women at all except on his occasional trips to the city, so he eagerly stared at the women he did see, no matter how attractive. He was not willing to go to a brothel because he was interested in a long-term relationship with an upstanding woman.
