Fiona takes multiple opportunities to force her parents' hands in regard to Nico. When Nico's parents forbid Terrence, Nico's lover, from visiting Nico in the hospital, Fiona tells her parents that she will not go to visit Nico unless they allow Terrence to come with her. After Nico's death, Fiona's parents want to hold a vigil the night before a church funeral, but they again refuse to invite any of Nico's friends. Ultimately, they do invite Terrence, but everyone finds out later that Fiona had forced this action on their parts as well.
