Who is the antagonist in The Grave by Katherine Anne Porter?

The main antagonist in the story would be society.... the people who make Amanda feel as if something is wrong with her simply because she doesn't have a woman's guidance. Rather than step in and make an effort to guide her, neighbor's treat her with a lack of kindness and disdain.
