Sister Ida is Little Homer's mother. She spends her life traveling from place to place.... from revival to revival, in the hopes of converting souls and feeding the fourteen children in her traveling mission. Over the course of the novel, Sister Ida is deeply affected by Dolly's kindness and generosity.
