How does the author use foreshadowing in The Golden Notebook?

In the section titled, Free Women 1, Anna describes Tommy as a "blind man", foreshadowing his return home and subsequent attempt to take his own life. As a result, of shooring himself in the head.... Tommy doesn't lose his life, but he does lose his sight.
