Who is Thomas von der Trave from The Glass Bead Game and what is their importance?

Thomas von der Trave was the Magister Ludi during Knecht's years of free study. He hosted international delegations and conducted the organized big games. Von der Trave died when Knecht was visiting Waldzell for an annual Game competition. Knecht became his successor as Magister Ludi.
