In Chapter 12, who steps up to help the librarians and why?

Beth breaks her arm and cannot work. Izzy's father refuses to let her help anymore, so the librarians do not have the help they need. Kathleen Bligh volunteers to help them since they are short-handed. The library has kept her going, and she does not want some fool to shut it down.
