The importance and honour of the Assignments are in fact rather similar to the society nowadays. Assignments such as 'a prominent position in the Department of Justice' (Jonas' mom) and Director of Recreation Department (Asher) are considered important and of a higher status. In reverse, jobs such as Night Crew Nurturer, Laborer and Sanitary Cleaner (aka. janitor) are considered Assignments of lower status and often symbolize the lack of what is needed for knowledge-based jobs.

Hope this helped :)
