Daisy reaches the Gate of St. Angelicus, which is an entrance to the college. She hears the cries of the Master, who is blind. She helps him back onto his chair, and then she exits, closing the door behind her. The delay causes her to meet Fred Fairly, who is walking home from his lecture.
