The rising action begins when Myop is skipping along, singing a song, and tapping out a beat with the stick in her hand. She skips past her family's henhouse, pigpen, and smokehouse. She then turns away from her family's cabin, and walks along the fence, before coming to the stream where her family retrieves their drinking water. Myop watches the water, looks at the wild flowers, and then begins to explore the woods, something she's done on numerous occasions. On this day, however, Myop goes a new way into the woods, where she discovers a batch of strange and beautiful blue flowers and brown buds from a sweetsuds bush. By noon, she has more flowers than she can carry and decides to start for home.
