The Floating World
What does Joe's cabin represent to him in the novel, The Floating World?
.
.
The Boisdoré cabin symbolizes Joe’s Creole heritage. The cabin purchased by his ancestor, the first landowning Creole in the city. As Joe struggles with his identity as a black man in post-Katrina New Orleans, he also struggles with the idea of selling the cabin to afford medical care for his father; it is when his (Creole) daughter offers to stay with him, thus embracing her heritage, that these issues are resolved for Joe.
