What advice does Captain Oliver give Ven about his father?

Oliver tells Ven to write a quick letter to his father before they land. He informs Ven he will have to stay in Kingston for a few days until his rescue is reported and cleared by the authorities. When Ven says that he doesn't know if his father even wants to see him, Oliver tells him that any father, regardless of circumstance, wants to see his son and know he is alive.
