How do Ven's brothers fool him into inspecting the ship?

Ven's brothers hate inspecting the ships, and it is tradition for them to draw straws to see which one has to inspect the next one. Now that Ven has come of age, he is up for inspecting the ship, and the brothers take advantage of the fact it is his first time by rigging the straws so Ven pulls the shortest one.
