How does Mitch Albom use imagery in The Five People You Meet in Heaven?

There is imagery of Eddie's life at Ruby Pier is full of the colors and rides of an old amusement park. The colors, however, seem to fade as the book progresses, giving way to more vibrant colors and texture of the various versions of Heaven that Eddie visits.
