Why doesn't Jonathan call out when he thinks he sees the Corporal while he is with the Hessians?

Jonathan doesn't call out to the Corporal because he did not perform well in battle and then allowed himself to become a prisoner. He is not sure how the Americans will react to him, and also unclear about his feelings toward his captors.
