In what way does Jonathan begin to see the Corporal differently when the man wakes him up at the campfire?

When the Corporal wakes Jonathan, he begins talking to him with more kindness, leading Jonathan to notice how tired and tattered he is, and to see him as a person, rather than just a soldier.
