What leads up to the argument between Hazel and her parents in Chapter 20?

One night, after 5 pm, Augustus calls. He sounds normal and invites her to support group. He also tells her to prepare a eulogy. Hazel argues with her parents about allowing her to go. Then, Hazel goes to her room to write Augustus's eulogy.
